If defendant requests a jury trial or counterclaim exceeding $3,000, the case will proceed under formal rules of civil procedure and evidence.

Either party may file an appeal in the Appellate Division of Superior Court within 45 days of judgment to review matters of law, not fact.

Right to sue may not be transferred. Jury trials are available by written demand or court order. The defendant must answer the complaint within 20 days if located in the state and 35 days if located outside New Jersey or default judgment may be entered.
