Certified mail by court clerk with return receipt, sheriff or disinterested adult.

Approximately 3 weeks from filing of complaint.

Allowed, but can't charge more than 10% of judgment in uncontested cases.

If defendant counterclaim exceeds $6,000 or court grants defendant request, case proceeds under formal rules of civil procedure and evidence in District Court, unless both parties agree in writing to remain in Small Claims Court.

Either party may file an appeal for a review of law, not facts, in Supreme Court within 30 days of judgment.

Only cases to recover money or personal property. Jury trial available. Right to sue may not be transferred.
